Discovering the three waves

More than 244 years ago, Royal Copenhagen was born; emerging from the three main waterways of Denmark marked on every piece of porcelain.

We joined an adventure

Throughout one whole year, Danish photographer Anders Hviid-Haglund travelled the coastlines of Denmark, in search of 52 essential ocean moments to capture the essense of the 3 Royal Copenhagen trademark waves. As a personal narrative, the project is a immersion into the poetry of the Danish waters. We were proud to be invited to join the journey with creative sparring and subsequently designing the physical book.

52 photographs in a year.
One per week.

Parting the ocean in two

We parted the book in two. Open the book from one side and experience the photographic artwork itself, flip the book and open it from the other side, and experience the journey behind the camera with footage, notes and thoughts from the many hours gazing into the horizon.

Dive into the blue

We developed an online exhibition of the book, so that everyone has a chance to experience the artwork and discover the process behind making it.

Here you can get a fascinating overview of the variety of sea sides and also order your favorite ocean view as a print:

We love complicated

Purposefully complicating the process, the motifs of the Waves of Blue Project were captured through the lens of Anders Hviid-Haglund’s 4x5 Sinar view camera, resulting in analogue polaroids and sheet negatives, giving the book a beautiful sense of texture.
